A Rose, By Any Other Name Given

It’s stem draws a birth, planted firmly ground
budding new with purpose, the shine of sun all around

With care protected by sepals
to open in time, breathing life to its petals

It’s colours and scent uniquely vary
soft and vibrant, sweet and spicy

At the centre of its core the stigma thrives
and waits for the moment when a bee arrives

Her residue sticky, powdery pollen
yearning to be touched when blooming swollen

An act of life repeated over centuries past
a renewal of life for centuries more to last

A rose, by any other name given
is Woman
